A former soldier caught in a £1.5m drugs and dirty money bust has been jailed for four years.

Steven Reid tried to flee from police before crashing his car into traffic lights on November 22 last year.

Officers went on to discover cash stuffed into shopping bags in the Vauxhall Corsa.

The 39-year-old’s home in Paisley, Renfrewshire, was searched.

A boy clutching a bag and a rucksack was seen leaving the property as police arrived.

A total of 14 blocks of cocaine – with purity as high as 86% – were found inside.

Officers also seized 4.5kg of heroin during the raid as well as a hydraulic press.

The drugs had a potential value of approximately £1.3m with around £130,000 of cash discovered in the car and at Reid’s home.

Reid appeared via video-link to be sentenced at the High Court in Glasgow on Thursday,

He earlier pled guilty to being concerned in the supply of the class A drugs as well as a charge of dangerous driving.

His KC Thomas Ross said: “He had previously joined the army serving his country home and abroad for six years.

“He observed things that lead to certain mental health difficulties.”

Mr Ross added Reid had latterly been working as a landscape gardener and had never been in jail before.

Judge John McCormick cut the sentence from six years due to the guilty plea.
