Five teenagers have been left in a “serious” condition after a car crashed into a tree in East Kilbride.

Officers were alerted to the serious collision that happened on Crookedshields Highway near to its junction with Crookedshields Road on Sunday evening.

Police said a black Vauxhall Astra, which was being driven by an 18-year-old man, appears to have lost control and struck a tree.

The teenager and two male passengers, aged 17 and 18, were taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital where staff describe their conditions as “serious”.

Police are urging anyone with information regarding the incident to come forward.

Sergeant Stewart Taylor of the Road Policing Unit at Motherwell said: “As our enquiries continue, I’d appeal to anyone with information to come forward.

“I’d be particularly keen to speak to anyone who saw what happened, saw the black Astra being driven, or who has dashcam footage from the area around the time.

“Anyone with information is urge to contact Police Scotland on 101 quoting reference number 3653 of June 2, 2024.”
