First look images released of serial killer series The Dark coming to STV and STV Player

The first look images at a chilling six-part serial killer drama coming to STV and STV Player this summer have been released.

The Dark, which stars Laura Donnelly and Trigger Point and Karen Pirie actor Mark Rowley, has been adapted from GR Halliday’s debut novel, From the Shadows, by Matt Hartley and produced by Poison Pen Studios, part of ITV Studios.

The series is set in Scotland and was filmed last year in and around Glasgow, Greenock, Gourock, and the surrounding rural areas of the Scottish Highlands and Lowlands.

Donnelly plays DI Monica Kennedy, who embarks on a tense cat and mouse hunt for a twisted serial killer across the Scottish countryside alongside her new partner DC Connor Crawford, played by Mark Rowley.

The series follows DI Monica Kennedy, who embarks on a tense cat and mouse hunt for a twisted serial killer across the Scottish countryside alongside her new partner, DC Connor Crawford, after the body of a young man is found in the Scottish wilderness.

Detective Kennedy fears this is just the beginning of a terrifying campaign that will strike the heart of a rural community, and as paranoia rises, suspicions and secrets are forced into the light, and the locals start to realise that there is a serial killer hidden amongst them.

With her experience of dealing with the darkest of humanity, Kennedy quickly becomes entangled in a heightened game of cat and mouse with a cunning killer.

But when her own history creeps up on her, she begins to lose trust in her own judgement. Will it be her own actions that are the biggest risk to herself and her family?

The first look also shows distraught mother Bethany Morgan, played by Helen Baxendale, pushed to her limit after Detective Kennedy appears on her doorstep once again with a case linked to her missing son.

The images released also give a chilling first glimpse of the murder, masked, dangerous and poised to kill again.
