Fires at telecommunications sites being investigated by police Police Scotland

Several fires at telecommunications sites in Glasgow are being investigated by Police Scotland.

A fibre underground chamber in Threestone Hill and a copper cabling underground chamber in Croftspar Drive at Springboig Avenue have been damaged after someone deliberately set fires within.

The incidents happened between midnight on Thursday 23 April and 1am on Friday 24 April.

The chamber at Croftspar Drive was then set alight again between 2am on Friday 24 April and 8am on Saturday 25 April.

Detective Sergeant Lisa MacDonald said: “We believe these three incidents are linked. Neither of these chambers are 5G sites.

“Not only is fire-raising dangerous, this has caused severe disruption to several hundred businesses and home customers, who during these challenging times will be relying on virtual technology and the phone to keep in contact with customers, family and friends.”

People with information are being urged to call Police Scotland on 101 quoting  0726 of 24 April.
