Residents in Paisley are being asked to keep their windows and doors closed as firefighters tackle a blaze at a derelict building.

Emergency services were called to Speirsfield Garden, off Stevenson Street, around 7.24pm on Tuesday.

Seven fire engines were sent to the incident, which is understood to have started within a former two-storey care home, with efforts ongoing to extinguish the blaze. There are no reports of any injuries.

The public is being asked to avoid the area.

Police have closed Stevenson Street at Causeyside Street and High Calside at Calside.

A spokesperson for Scottish Fire and Rescue said: “We are currently in attendance at a fire within a derelict building on Paisley’s Speirsfield Gardens.

“We have seven appliances on scene and people are asked to avoid the area if possible.

“If you live nearby, please also keep windows and doors closed for the time being.”

Police Scotland added: “Road closures are in place on Stevenson Street at Causeyside Street and High Calside at Calside. The public is asked to avoid the area.

“Nearby residents are advised to keep windows and doors closed at this time.”
