Firefighters tackled a blaze at a derelict mansion house in Largs once worth over £600,000.

Emergency services were called to the blaze on Irvine Road around 6.30pm on Tuesday, affecting a two-storey building.

Police shut the A78 Irvine Road while fire crews extinguished the blaze after four appliances were sent to the area.

No injuries were reported, and crews left the scene at 10.38pm. Police confirmed the road reopened on Wednesday morning.

North Ayrshire Council approved the demolition of the mansion house near Largs Golf Club on Irvine Road in 2021.

Applicants GHG Holdings Limited received permission to build 30 luxury flats on the site. The site was last valued at more than £611,000.

A Police Scotland statement read: “The A78 Irvine Road in Largs has reopened following a fire near to Trigoni Court.

“The fire was put out by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, and no one was injured.

“The public are thanked for their patience.”

Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 6.30pm on Tuesday, June 30, to reports of a fire on Irvine Road, Largs.

“Operations Control mobilised four appliances to the area, and crews worked to extinguish a fire affecting a two-storey derelict building.

“There were no casualties, and the crew left at 10.38pm after ensuring it was safe.”
