Fire crews were called to a dairy factory in Dumfries and Galloway following reports of a chemical leak.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) were called to Arla Foods Lockerbie Creamery, a dairy and cheese processing plant near Lockerbie, on Wednesday.

Four appliances were sent to the scene and one casualty was assessed at the scene.

A SFRS spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 2.19pm on Wednesday, October 21, to reports of a suspected chemical leak in Lockerbie.

“Operations Control mobilised four appliances to the scene, where firefighters worked to make the area safe.

“One casualty was assessed at the scene but did not require medical treatment.”

Arla Foods said fire crews were called as a “precaution”.

An Arla Foods spokesperson said: “Emergency services attended our Lockerbie site yesterday as a precaution following an alarm activation, with no injuries reported.”
