A firefighter in Argyll and Bute has thanked colleagues in England who paid respects to his mother on his behalf after he couldn’t travel to her funeral.
Aggie Dennis – along with his wife and daughters – didn’t get the chance to say a final goodbye to his mum, Betty, as a result of travel restrictions brought in during the coronavirus pandemic.
Betty died in Wiltshire, southwest England, when the whole of the UK was under strict lockdown.
However, her final journey was marked by firefighters from Trowbridge Fire Station, who stood to attention and bowed their heads in respect on Aggie’s behalf.
The poignant moment was arranged after Aggie’s daughter, Rowena, contacted Crew Manager Paul Beety at Trowbridge.
Aggie, a watch commander at Tarbert, said: “I’m indebted to Trowbridge fire station for giving my mum the send-off I couldn’t.
“Once again, the fire service family has come together when they were needed most.
“I look forward to visiting the station myself when I can, to thank the team in person; what they did may seem minor to some, but it meant the world to me.”
