Fire tears through house as crews tackle overnight blaze

The fire service was called to the incident in St Andrews Drive, Glasgow, shortly after midnight on Wednesday.

Firefighters tackled a blaze at a house in Glasgow’s southside overnight.

Crews were called to the fire in St Andrews Drive shortly after midnight on Wednesday.

An eyewitness said: “It was hellish, it really was. The whole house, front to back, was ablaze.

“It’s been renovated but nobody was living in it. It’s a beautiful big stone house but it’s a wreck now.”

Three appliances were in attendance at the scene and no one was injured.

Police attended around 1.30am to assist the fire service and said an investigation is now under way to establish the cause.

A spokeswoman said: “Around 1.30am on Wednesday, we received a report of a fire at a premises on St Andrews Drive, Glasgow.

“Emergency services attended and extinguished the fire. No-one was injured.

“A joint investigation is ongoing to establish the cause of the fire.”
