Residents are being urged to keep windows and doors closed as fire crews battled a blaze at an abandoned building in Kirkintilloch during the night.

As of 8am on Tuesday morning, two fire engines, including a high-reach vehicle, remained at the scene.

A spokesperson for Campsie View Care Home said: “We can confirm that emergency services attended a fire at a neighbouring property.

“We are thankful that no one was injured, including any of our residents or colleagues.

“While the home continues to operate as normal, emergency services remain on site and access to our car park is temporarily closed.

“We are working closely with emergency services to support their operations and are committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of our residents.

“We thank the emergency services for their response and assistance throughout the incident.”

A Police Scotland statement read: “Scottish Fire and Rescue Service are in attendance at an ongoing incident in Canal Street, Kirkintilloch.

“They request that all residents in the vicinity keep their windows closed and that persons avoid the area if possible.”
