Fire crews were called to a canal in Glasgow to help rescue a swan trapped by a fishing hook.

Emergency services were dispatched to the Forth and Clyde Canal in the Firhill area of Glasgow at 3.02pm on Sunday to assist the Scottish SPCA.

Two appliances and a specialist resource were deployed to help the bird, which had its leg caught around a fishing hook.

The hook was safely removed, however, the swan required medical treatment.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 3.02pm on Sunday, February 16, to reports of a swan with a fishing hook caught round its leg in the Forth and Clyde Canal in the Firhill area of Glasgow.

“Operations Control mobilised two fire appliances and specialist resources to the scene to support the SSPCA, where firefighters helped remove the fishing hook safely.

“The swan required medical treatment.

“Crews left the scene at 4.16pm after ensuring the area was made safe.”
