Fire crews have been battling a woodland blaze that took hold near a residential area in North Lanarkshire for “a number of days”.
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed they continue to reattend the deep-seated open fire close to Burleigh Street in Coatbridge to ensure it does not spread.
Further inspections took place on Thursday night. The SFRS states another inspection will take place on Friday morning and inspections will continue until the fire is extinguished.
There is not believed to be a wider risk to the public environment or community.
A spokesperson said: “North Lanarkshire Council is supporting with ongoing tree felling and ground excavation to assist firefighters with access.
“Locals may see firefighters wearing facemasks when working in conditions that require digging out or turning over of debris.”
