Glasgow residents have been urged to close doors and windows as fire crews battle a scrapyard blaze.
Six fire appliances and one high reach are at the scene of an ongoing fire which took hold of a scrapyard in Partick’s South Street at around 11.30pm on Friday.
Pictures showed clouds of smoke billowing from the blaze.
Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) said there had been no casualties reported, but urged people to avoid the area.
Those living nearby have been told to shut their windows and doors due to the level of smoke in the area.
A statement read: “If you can see or smell smoke, please continue to keep windows and doors closed. If you are driving through the area and can see smoke, keep air conditioning off and air vents closed.
“Members of the public should continue to avoid the area as firefighters work to make the area safe.
“This will be a protracted incident, and we are grateful to the local community for their understanding, patience and cooperation during this time.
“We are currently in attendance at a large fire affecting a scrap yard on South Street in Glasgow.
“Operations Control were first alerted at 11.23pm this evening, and we currently have nine fire appliances, two high reach appliances and specialist resources at the scene. There are no reported casualties.
“Due to smoke in the area, nearby residents are advised to keep their windows and doors closed as a precaution. If you are driving through smoke, keep air conditioning off and air vents closed. Members of the public should also avoid the area.
“We would like to thank members of the public for their support and assistance. A high volume of calls has already been received by Operations Control and further calls are not required at this time.”
