Fire crews are battling a blaze at a recycling centre in Ayrshire.

Emergency services were called to Garlaff Recycling Centre on Skares Road, near Cumnock, around 11.12am on Tuesday.

Two fire engines were sent to the scene to tackle the incident affecting a waste storage unit. Crews remain at the scene as of Tuesday evening.

The recycling centre has been temporarily closed while the incident is ongoing.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 11.12am on Tuesday, July 28, to reports of a fire at Garlaff Recycling Centre, Skares Road, Garlaff, near Cumnock.

“Operations Control mobilised two fire appliances to the scene, where firefighters are working to extinguish a fire affecting a waste storage unit.

“There have been no reported casualties and crews remain at the scene.”

East Ayrshire Council have asked the public to avoid the area.
