An appeal has been launched after a play hut containing children’s toys was burned down at a primary school in West Dunbartonshire.

Emergency services were called to Edinbarnet Primary School, in Faifley, at around 3.30pm on Monday, September 26, after receiving reports that a wooden structure was on fire.

The blaze was successfully extinguished, with no injuries reported, but the wooden hut and all the toys that were stored within have been completely destroyed.

Police believe the fire was started deliberately and enquiries into the incident suggest that a group of youths, aged between 12 to 15 years old, were seen in the area prior to the blaze.

Detective constable Lee Cassidy said: “The wanton destruction of this hut has left schoolchildren with nothing to play with.

“I am appealing to anyone who was in the area on Monday afternoon to think back and consider if they saw anything suspicious.

“If you have any information then please do pass it on as it could assist us in locating those responsible for this criminal act.”

Anyone with information is asked to call Police Scotland via 101, quoting incident number 0521 of September 27, 2022. Alternatively, please call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 where you can give your information anonymously.
