Heavy fog has caused disruption to transport and prompted a warning for drivers to take care on Tuesday morning.

Multiple ferry services have been cancelled due to “poor visibility” across Argyll and Bute.

CalMac confirmed that a number of services were cancelled due to the poor conditions on Tuesday morning.

The ferry operator issued an amber warning for services between Tarbert and Portavadie, adding that the 8am and 8.30am services have been cancelled.

CalMac also confirmed that the 9.05am service from Rothesay has been cancelled due to the MV Argyle being unable to depart from Gourock.

Additionally, services from Gourock have been suspended which will be reviewed around 9am.

Traffic Scotland also issued a warning to drivers and urged them to take care when driving in the foggy conditions.

CalMac has been contacted for comment.

There has also been disruption to train services in the west with emergency services called to an incident between Airdrie and Carntyne.

It comes after weeks of cloudy, stagnant autumn weather — known as anticyclonic gloom.

As conditions shift dramatically, Scotland will see temperatures plunge and snow fall across parts of the country.

A CalMac spokesperson said: “Due to poor visibility, services will be liable to disruption or cancellation at short notice today.
