A father and daughter held her partner hostage during a terrifying 15-hour torture ordeal.

John McGinley, 58, and Stacey McGinley, 39, turned on the man after he apparently owed his on-off partner money.

The attack at the flat in Glasgow’s east end saw the victim initially shoved from a first-floor window before he was stripped, battered, choked and stabbed.

He was only rescued after another woman there secretly managed to get help.

Firearms officers soon arrived on the scene and arrested the duo.

The McGinleys – who both already had a history of violence – each face lengthy jail-terms after they admitted to the guilt at the High Court in Glasgow.

The victim had been at the father and daughter’s flat along with another woman on February 15, 2025.

Stacey was said to be “unhappy” with her partner as he apparently owed her more than £600.

Around 3am, she then started lashing out at the man by repeatedly punching him.

He got away and climbed onto the windowsill of the first-floor flat.

The court heard John then pushed the victim with both hands causing him to fall into a neighbour’s garden.

Prosecutor Alasdair Shaw stated: “[The victim] was groaning in pain – at least one of his legs appeared to be misshapen. He also appeared to be bleeding from his head.”

The other woman in the flat wanted an ambulance called, but Stacey refused and instead demanded the man be hauled back inside.

He was then dumped into a bedroom and the front door locked.

Mr Shaw said: “John McGinley stated to [the victim] that he owed his daughter money and that he ‘deserved it’ – that being the push from the window.

“Stacey began punching him again. He begged her to stop and to get assistance.”

The court heard the terrified victim was subjected to a “numerous assaults” for a number of hours.

It was Stacey who took off her partner’s clothes.

Mr Shaw added: “The other woman could hear [the victim] screaming as Stacey McGinley pushed something into his ear.

“He continued his cries for help. At times, he could be heard choking.

“Stacey also repeatedly bit [the victim] on the body and stamped on his head.”

She then ordered the stricken victim to call his mother to transfer cash to settle the debt.

The advocate depute said: “During the course of the assault, John McGinley went in and out of the bedroom in possession of knives which were used to strike [the victim] on the head and body.

“Both were also involved in throwing him about the room.”

The victim was described as “covered in blood, eyes swollen, his body extensively bruised” and being forced to crawl along the floor.

He was also booted off a bed as he tried to clamber on it.

Mr Shaw said: “Stacey McGinley placed him in a headlock, compressed his neck and asked the other woman if his face had turned purple.

“It had not, but the witness said it had in order to appease her.

“Stacey demanded he was not to leave the room or she would kill him.”

Stacey had also cut bits of the man’s hair.

Mr Shaw continued: “She proceeded to spray gold coloured hairspray into the wounds on his head causing him to scream in pain.

“John McGinley then got a canvas-style bag and put it on [the man’s] head to stop the blood dripping onto furnishings.”

The other woman eventually got her phone to alert a friend to what was happening.

She texted: “Phone an ambulance and police. Do not tell them I am doing this.

“She lives one up. Big dog, Do not text me back. He holding a guy hostage.

“They do not know I am phoning. She is going to kill him.”

It was at 5.26pm, firearms officers swooped on the flat in Glasgow’s Carntyne.

They found the victim in great pain, wrapped in a duvet with his face bloodstained.

He told the police he had a broken leg and could not move.

The McGinleys were arrested as the victim was rushed to hospital.

The string of injuries included a hip fracture, dislocated shoulder, missing teeth as well as stamp, bite and strangulation marks.

The man remained in hospital until March 3 and needed further rehabilitation for his leg injury.

John McGinley pled guilty to attempted murder with her daughter admitting to assaulting the victim to his severe injury, permanent disfigurement and impairment as well as to the danger of his life.

Both also abducted the man and tried to extort cash from him.

The pair already had more than 20 convictions between them. The father had previously been jailed at the high court for a drugs offence.

Lord Mulholland remanded the pair in custody as sentencing was adjourned until May.
