The family of a nine-year-old who was found dead in a wooded area in South Lanarkshire have described him as a “loving, happy and handsome boy”.
Emergency services were called to woods near Abbeygreen Road in Lesmahagow shortly before 7pm on Sunday night, but the schoolboy, who has been named as Jordan Moore, was pronounced dead at the scene.
A post mortem examination has now taken place, and police have confirmed there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the death.
His family have said he will “forever be in our hearts” in a statement issued through Police Scotland.
They said: “Our Jordan was the most loving, caring, happy, handsome wee boy. He’ll forever be in all our hearts.”
Detective inspector Vicki Douglas said: “Our thoughts are with Jordan’s family and friends at this incredibly difficult time.
“His family are being supported by officers and have requested that their privacy is respected at this time.”
A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.
Jordan was a pupil at Woodpark Primary School in Lesmahagow, and the school’s headteacher described him as an “energetic fun-loving boy”.
Debbie MacKenna said: “We are all deeply shocked and saddened by the tragic death of Jordan, who was a valued member of our school community.
“Jordan was an energetic, fun-loving boy who was loyal to his friends and family, and was loved by us all. His radiant smile, his singing and dancing and his sense of humour lit up our school.
“We keep Jordan’s family and friends very much in our thoughts and prayers, and we will continue to support our school community at this very sad time.”
