The family of a man who died in a two-car crash in Inverclyde over the weekend have paid tribute to their “loving and caring father and husband”.

David Horn passed away at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital on Sunday following the collision between his Toyota Yaris and a Volkswagen Golf on the A78.

Police shut down the road between Inverkip and Mr Horn’s home town of Wemyss Bay for almost 12 hours while an initial probe into the crash got under way.

Emergency crews transported the 59-year-old for treatment in Glasgow, however he died a short time later.

In a short statement, Mr Horn’s family said: “David was a loving, caring and compassionate husband and father, and a ready, willing and true friend to many.”

The 22-year-old driver of the other car was also taken to hospital. An investigation into the crash remains ongoing.

Sergeant Nick Twigg said: “Our thoughts are very much with David’s family at this very difficult time.

“Our investigation to establish the full circumstances of what happened is ongoing and we continue to appeal to anyone who can assist, who has not already spoken with officers, to please get in touch.”

He added: “If you have dash-cam footage or anything else that could help, please call us on 101 and quote incident number 3898 of Saturday, October 15.”
