The devastated family of a “selfless” mum killed in an alleged hit-and-run on Hogmanay have launched a fundraiser in her memory.
Elizabeth Kennedy died at the scene after being struck by a car on Barrhead Road in Paisley around 7pm on New Year’s Eve.
The 70-year-old has been remembered as a “selfless, caring nurse” with an “overwhelming” desire to help others.
A fundraiser has been launched ahead of Elizabeth’s funeral to raise money to buy a cuddle cot for a local hospital – a cooling device that helps grieving parents to have the gift of time with their baby who has died.
Elizabeth’s daughter Julie explained: “We as a family are absolutely devastated, and in memory of our mum, we would like to raise funds to buy a cuddle cot.
“Our mum was a very loving, generous and selfless caring nurse for many years and had an overwhelming desire to help others.
“Over the years, mum would hand knit premature hats, cardigans, and shawls for our most vulnerable babies, as well as angel robes for babies born sleeping.
“We have decided to create this fundraiser as we have been overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and support from everyone and especially to the wider community who came together when we needed them the most.”
Over £1,400 has been donated within four days.
Elizabeth’s funeral is due to take place on January 27.
We previously reported how an 18-year-old had been arrested by police in connection with the death and released pending further inquiries.
