The family of a pensioner who died in a fatal car crash in Rutherglen have said they are “devastated” by the loss of a “much loved dad, papa and friend”.
Michael McManamon, 73, died at the scene of the collision on Mill Street on Friday.
Police are appealing for witnesses and have arrested a 34-year-old man in connection with the incident.
Mr McManamon, from Glasgow, was the passenger of a Mercedes C220 when the crash occurred at the junction with King’s Park Avenue around 11.50pm.
The driver of the car, an 80-year-old man, was rushed to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow where he also later died.
The man arrested was driving a Ford Mondeo and was uninjured in the incident.
Mr McManamon’s family said: “We are devastated at the loss of our much loved dad, papa and friend. He will be sorely missed but we are comforted by the messages from the community, who valued his help and friendship over the many years.”
Sergeant Gemma Blackadder from Lanarkshire Road Policing Unit said: “Our thoughts remain with both deceased’s family and friends.
“Our enquiries are continuing to establish the full circumstances and I would urge anyone who may be able to help and who hasn’t yet spoken to police to get in touch.
“Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101, quoting incident number 4274 of November 18.”
