Enquiries into the stabbing of an on-duty police officer in North Ayrshire have been completed six months after the incident.

A female officer was “seriously assaulted” on October 18 last year while responding to a reported break-in alongside two colleagues.

The 30-year-old officer was taken to hospital in Glasgow following the incident, which happened on Arthur Street in Stevenston.

Six months after the incident, police confirmed that all lines of enquiry have been “completed” following an extensive investigation.

No arrests have been made in the case and the force said any new information would be investigated.

At the time of the assault, chief superintendent Raymond Higgins, divisional commander for Ayrshire, described the attack as “despicable” and said the on-duty assault of officers “will not be tolerated”.

“This officer was carrying out her role, serving local communities and protecting the public, when the incident happened,” he added.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Following an extensive investigation into a serious assault that happened in Arthur Street in Stevenston on Wednesday, October 18, 2023, all current lines of enquiry have now been completed.

“Any new information will be investigated.”
