Glasgow’s Elfingrove has now opened back up following a closure on day two due to technical issues.
The winter attraction, billed as the UK’s largest ice rink, welcomed hundreds to its opening day on Thursday.
Elfingrove transformed the grounds of Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum into a winter wonderland – complete with a toddler rink for children under five.
However, organisers Itison announced on Friday that the rink had to be temporarily closed due to a technical issues with the marquee.
The attraction was reopened on Saturday, November 26.
Oli Norman, CEO of itison and Elfingrove creator, said he was “absolutely gutted” to have had to close down on Friday.
He continued: “This situation was entirely out of our control, and for the sake of the health and safety of our team and our wonderful guests, we had to cancel the show.”
He clarified that the onsite production team had noticed the issue with the rink’s marquee roof – the marquee company and engineers rectified the issue and put contingencies in to “ensure this will not happen again”.
Mr Norman said: “We are so sorry to those who have been disappointed today. Reading comments of families so excited to come has really broken our hearts and we know words won’t fix anything.
“We hope you will all come along and make ice magic with us on another day, we can’t wait to welcome you to Elfingrove.”
