A hunt for a hooded suspect has been launched after an elderly woman with a walking stick was robbed at a cash machine in Kilmarnock.

The incident occurred around 11.30am on Wednesday on the town’s King Street.

A man approached the woman as she was using the machine, pushed her and made off with £100 in cash down a lane leading to Princes Street.

Police confirmed the woman was not injured during the “despicable act”.

Officers described the suspect as white, around 30 years old, of slim build and around 5ft1 with bushy sideburns or a beard.

The man was last seen wearing a dark-coloured jacket or hooded top.

Police Scotland is urging anyone with information to come forward.

Detective sergeant Kevin Parkin said: “Fortunately the woman was not injured but this was a despicable act involving an elderly woman with a walking stick.

“We are asking anyone who saw what happened or who has information that could assist with our investigation to get in touch.

“In particular, if you were driving in the area at the time please check your dash-cam to see if you have captured something that could help, both on King Street and in the direction the man took onto Princes Street.

“Anyone who can help is asked to call Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 1087 of Wednesday, March 5, 2025.”
