A pensioner has died following a fire at a flat in Glasgow.
Emergency services were called to a flat in Annandale Street, in the Shawlands area of the city, at around 5.40pm on Sunday.
An 83-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) extinguished the fire and police confirmed there are not any suspicious circumstances surrounding the blaze.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 5.40pm on Sunday, July 16 we were called to a report of a fire at a property on Annandale Street, Glasgow.
“Emergency services attended and the fire was extinguished.
“An 83-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
“A joint investigation was carried out with the SFRS and the fire is not suspicious.
“A report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.”
David Murdoch is the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service’s Local Senior Officer for City of Glasgow.
He said: “We were alerted at 5.14pm on Sunday, July 16, to reports of an alarm actuating from a property on Annandale Street, Glasgow.
“Operations control mobilised three fire appliances to the area and firefighters found the ground floor flat of a four storey tenement building well alight.
“Sadly, an 83 year old woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
“Our thoughts are very much with her family, friends and the wider community at this difficult time.
“A joint investigation alongside Police Scotland colleagues is now ongoing.”
