An elderly man and woman are in hospital after a serious three-vehicle crash in South Lanarkshire.

Police responded to the collision involving three vehicles at around 5.10pm on Wednesday, May, 1 on the B7078 near the junction for Balgray Road in Lesmahagow.

Both occupants of a white Fiat Panda, an 82-year-old woman and an 86-year-old man, were taken to Wishaw General Hospital after the car overturned.

A grey Mazda CX5 and a black Mitsubishi L200 were also involved, with the 44-year-old female driver of the Mazda and the 68-year-old male driver of the Mitsubishi not requiring hospital treatment.

The road was closed to allow collision investigators to assess and examine the road.

Sergeant Ross Allison said: “I am appealing to other road users with dash cams, who were in the area around the time of the incident, to check their footage as it could contain images relevant to our investigation.”
