A canal in Edinburgh has been left partially blocked by a car stolen from over 200 miles away.
The convertible Mini was discovered in the Union Canal in the Wester Hailes Road area around 8.10am on August 4.
Investigations found that the car had been stolen from the West Yorkshire area in July before being deliberately driven into the water and abandoned.
Scottish Canals have been left responsible for the cars removal.
They said the canal channel remains “partially blocked” while removal is being organised.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 8.10am on Sunday, August 4, 2024, officers were made aware of a vehicle in the Union Canal in the Wester Hailes Road area of Edinburgh.
“No-one was in the vehicle.
“Arrangements have been made for the vehicle to be recovered.”
A statement by Scottish Canals said: “A small car has been found in the Union Canal near Bridge 6b. The canal channel is partially blocked but passage remains open with care. We are working with various organisations to have the car removed.”
