Easyjet passengers 'abandoned' at airport after Edinburgh flight diverted to Glasgow

An easyJet passenger has said he and his grandchildren were abandoned at Edinburgh Airport in the middle of the night after his flight was diverted.

The flight from Lanzarote to Glasgow was forced to land in Edinburgh due to restrictions at Glasgow, with passengers then told to make their own way home.

One passenger said those on board were initially told the aircraft might refuel at Edinburgh before continuing to Glasgow, or that buses could be arranged to take them to their destination.

However, after passengers were told to disembark, he said the company posted a message on its app telling customers to make their own way home.

“They had blatantly lied to the passengers”, the affected passenger told STV News.

“EasyJet airlines diverted two flights from Glasgow to Edinburgh in the middle of the night, apparently due to works at Glasgow Airport.

“But an earlier and later flight managed to land at Glasgow without any problems.

“There were vulnerable people on this flight as well as young children, including our grandchildren aged three and six, who were extremely tired.

“With no transport arranged, we couldn’t even arrange taxis as they would not have car seats and were left in a hopeless position whilst the captain and crew walked into their pre-arranged transport and drove off.”

EasyJet have apologised and told affected customers they will be reimbursed for making their own travel arrangements.

A spokesperson said: “Flight EZY3112 from Lanzarote to Glasgow on October 8 was required to divert to Edinburgh yesterday evening due to arrival restrictions in place at Glasgow Airport.

“While we always look to provide onward transport where needed, as there was limited availability in Edinburgh, we advised customers they would be reimbursed for their own travel arrangements.

“The safety and well-being of our customers and crew is always easyJet’s highest priority, and while this was outside of our control, we are sorry for the inconvenience caused.”
