A park in East Renfrewshire has been evacuated following reports of a burst gas main.

Emergency services were called to Eastwood Park in Giffnock at around 3.30pm on Monday, September 7.

The park has been closed to the public, with all buildings within the site, including Eastwood Leisure Centre, evacuated as a precaution.

A Police Scotland statement read: “All premises within Eastwood Park have been evacuated as a precaution and a police cordon is in place.

“People are advised to avoid the area.”

Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: “We’re in attendance after receiving a report at around 3:28pm of a gas leak in Eastwood Park, Giffnock.

“We have mobilised one appliance and are continuing our response along with police and the gas network.”

East Renfrewshire Council also released a statement on social media.

“Eastwood Park is currently closed due to an ongoing gas leak.

“Emergency services and Scottish Gas Networks (SGN) are on site dealing with the situation. All buildings within Eastwood Park are closed, so any activities usually held at the leisure centre or pitch will not be running this evening. 

“We will provide further updates as they’re available.”
