A chip shop in Castle Douglas has been forced to close after being damaged by a fire just a week after it was named one of the best chippy’s in Britain.
Three fire engines descended on Moore’s on King Street around 7am on Thursday.
The public was asked to avoid the area while fire crews were on the scene. No injuries have been reported.
In a social media post, the shop described the incident as a “small electrical fire” and said it will remain closed until further notice.
It comes after the shop was awarded a place in the top 50 fish and chip shop takeaways in the UK by the National Federation of Fish Friers’ Fry Awards last week.
Their statement read: “Due to a small electrical fire in the shop this morning, we will be closed until further notice.
“We’d like to thank the fire brigade for their quick response, and we will keep you posted once we have been in to assess the damage.”
A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 7.02am on Thursday, January 15, to reports of a building on fire at King Street, Castle Douglas.
“Operations Control mobilised three fire appliances and firefighters extinguished a fire affecting an electrical unit within a commercial property.
“There were no reported casualties and crews left the scene after ensuring the area was made safe.”
