A schoolteacher who sexually assaulted children and hit them with drumsticks has been jailed.

James Clark was teaching at a school in Perthshire when he had a sexual relationship with a girl in his care and attacked others.

The 56-year-old’s crimes took place between August 2011 and February 2019.

Falkirk Sheriff Court heard he struck girls with drumsticks, cuddled and kissed them and made sexual remarks towards another child without their consent.

On Monday, November 15, Clark was convicted of seven charges against seven girls and sentenced to one year and nine months in prison.

Malcolm McBain, assistant procurator fiscal for Tayside, Central and Fife, said: “James Clark abused his position of trust to assault children in his care.

“His victims demonstrated great bravery and composure during the prosecutions process.

“It is thanks to them, and thorough and detailed work by police and prosecutors, that he has been brought to justice today.”
