Drivers have been warned to expect two weeks of traffic delays on the M8 as essential resurfacing work is carried out.
BEAR Scotland, on behalf of Transport Scotland, are set to resurface 1.55km of the M8 westbound which will see the road restricted to a single lane, 24 hours a day.
The work will begin on the evening of Thursday, September 5, and end on the morning of Saturday, September 21.
Two eastbound carriageways will close overnight to signal the beginning of the work on September 5 and 6.
BEAR Scotland said access to Harthill services will also be restricted for several days during the works, with exact dates yet to be confirmed.
Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times.
Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said it is “essential” the work is carried out before the road deteriorates further.
He said: “These surfacing improvements will improve safety for motorists as well as the quality and reliability of the road surface, while making use of sustainable techniques to minimise the environmental impact of the works.
“We appreciate the delays and disruption that these works will cause, however we’ve done everything we can to minimise the impact.”
The signed diversions for the duration of the work are:
- Thursday, September 5 and Friday, September 6 – M8 Eastbound closure. Diversion – Junction 5 to Junction 4A via the B7057, B7066 and Balgornie Road. Diversion will add approximately four minutes and 0.4 miles to affected journeys
