A driver has been taken to hospital after a three-car collision on Tuesday morning.

The A76 was blocked after a rush hour crash amid widespread fog.

Emergency services were called to the scene near Kilmarnock at 7.45am.

Transport Scotland confirmed the road was blocked at the Bellfield Interchange and advised drivers to plan ahead before making their journey.

Police Scotland confirmed that one person had been taken to hospital following the incident.

The road fully reopened shortly before 10am.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were made aware of a crash involving three vehicles on the A76 between the Bowhouse and Bellfield roundabouts at Kilmarnock around 6.45am on Tuesday, October 17.

“One person has been taken to hospital and the road has since fully reopened. Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.”

A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We received a call at 06:41 to attend a 3 vehicle RTC on the A76.

“Two ambulances were dispatched to the scene and one patient was transported to University Hospital Crosshouse.”
