A man has been taken to hospital after crashing into a police car in South Ayrshire.

The 23-year-old was driving a Vauxhall Corsa on the A77, near Ayr, when he was involved in the collision around 7.30pm on Thursday.

The crash with the marked vehicle, which was stationary and displaying blue lights, happened slightly to the north of the Sandyford Roundabout.

He was taken to Crosshouse Hospital in Kilmarnock, where his injuries are described as non-life threatening. Nobody else was injured.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “We can confirm a road crash occurred on the A77 slightly to the north of the Sandyford Roundabout near Ayr shortly after 7.30pm on Thursday.

“The incident involved a Vauxhall Corsa and a marked police vehicle which was stationary and displaying blue lights at the time.

“The 23-year-old male driver of the Corsa was taken to Crosshouse Hospital in Kilmarnock where his injuries are described as non-life threatening. Nobody else was injured.

“The road was closed until shortly before 11.30pm. Enquiries to establish the full circumstances remain ongoing.”
