A driver who mowed down a man in his car after a row over a games console has been jailed for seven years.

Paul Lambe, 36, was caught on CCTV mounting the pavement and ploughing into Gary Clark.

The victim was hurled into the air, but luckily survived the horror incident in Glasgow’s Craigend on June 28, 2019.

Lambe had earlier been due to hand over a child’s PlayStation to his ex-partner, but then refused after going into a “huff” when he saw her with Mr Clark.

On Thursday, he was sentenced at the High Court in Glasgow having been convicted of attempted murder last month.

Judge Michael O’Grady QC told him: “I am bound to take into account the reckless and frankly cowardly nature of the attack.

“Despite what you may now say, it was clearly deliberate and borne out of rage and some petty circumstance.

“It is only sheer good fortune that Mr Clark did not end up dead.”

Jurors heard how Lambe, also of Craigend, had repaired the PlayStation and his ex was due to collect it that day.

He believed she would be on her own, but claimed the woman “lied” to him when he spotted Mr Clark in her car.

Lambe said he was “angry” his ex had brought the man with her.

As a result, Lambe told jurors: “I was adamant that she was not getting the PlayStation.”

He claimed he was returning from a Chinese takeaway when he happened to spot Mr Clark at a bus stop.

Lambe said they briefly traded insults. He claimed he planned to drive on, but then turned his Ford Fiesta around to “frighten” Mr Clark.

However, he ended up mounting the kerb where the victim was standing.

Mr Clark was struck, smacking the windscreen before crashing to the ground.

Lambe’s lawyer, Edward Gilroy, asked him: “What did you think when you hit him?”

He replied: “S**t.  Panic.”

Prosecutor Erin Campbell put to Lambe during the trial that he did not care if the victim “lived or died” and had earlier gone in the “huff”.

Lambe had denied trying to kill Mr Clark.

Mr Gilroy said on Thursday: “He maintains that he wanted to frighten rather than harm the man.

“He bitterly regrets his choices and he fully accepts that they were his choices.”
