A man is in hospital with “serious injuries” after a crash involving an SUV and a road sweeper in North Lanarkshire.

Officers responded to the collision on Mollins Road in Cumbernauld around 1.50pm on Wednesday involving a grey Vauxhall Grandland and a Scania XT road sweeper.

A 26-year-old male, the driver of the SUV, was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital for treatment to serious injuries.

The driver of the road sweeper was not injured and the road was closed for around six hours to allow investigations to be carried out.

Sergeant Chris McColm said: “Our enquiries are ongoing and I am appealing for anyone who witnessed the crash and who hasn’t already spoken to police to get in touch.

“I would also ask anyone who may have been in the area at the time and who has dash cam footage which could assist to contact us.”
