A driver who fled from police on three wheels and ploughed into a Tesco delivery van has been jailed for 23 months.
Daneil Shariff, 25, raced off in his Seat Toledo in Rutherglen, South Lanarkshire, on April 24, 2020.
Shariff reached speeds of 87mph and smashed into a kerb during the pursuit.
The car lost a wheel as a result of the collision but Shariff continued the chase.
Shariff then crashed into the van, pushing it off road, and was ultimately arrested by police.
On Wednesday, Shariff pleaded guilty at Glasgow Sheriff Court to dangerous driving and a separate charge of possession of cannabis.
The court heard Shariff was ordered to stop his car on East Kilbride Road at 1.45pm.
Shariff initially slowed down before racing off at 80mph in a 30mph residential area.
He then lost control of the car before driving on a grass verge and fitting between a bus stop and a brick wall.
Prosecutor Claire Wallace said: “Shariff struck a kerb at 87mph, resulting in his front wheel being detached from the car.
“The wheel propelled 200 yards down the road but Shariff continued to accelerate and lost control again.
“He collided with a Tesco delivery van that was driving on the opposite direction of the road.
“He struck the middle of the driver’s door with such force that the van was pushed off the road.
“The van was only kept upright as it rested on a nearside wall.”
The Tesco driver fled from the vehicle using a window due to the damage to the van.
Police caught up with Shariff before he told them: “I’m sorry, I just panicked.”
Shariff was caught with £3600 worth of cannabis in the car and was arrested.
