A driver has been fined for filming a crash in Ayrshire, which saw three people taken to hospital.

Emergency services were called to the A78 near the Pennyburn roundabout in Kilwinning after a collision involving four vehicles at around 5.30pm on Tuesday.

Whilst awaiting recovery uplifts for the damaged vehicles, officers witnessed a driver recording them.

He was stopped by police and issued with a Fixed Penalty Notice of six points and a £200 fine.

The road was reopened a short time after the incident.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Officers would like to remind drivers that it is an offence to use a mobile telephone whilst driving.

“We would also kindly ask members of the community not to post photographs or video of any damaged vehicles to social media when an incident is still ongoing as there are times we require to contact family members of the injured and no one would want to see this online before knowing the full circumstances.”
