A driver has died after a car collided with a lorry at a roundabout in Kilmarnock.

Police were called to the A71, between the Moorfield and Bellfield roundabouts, after receiving reports of a Vauxhall Corsa colliding with a lorry parked in a lay-by at around 4am on Wednesday.

Emergency services attended, and the male driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene.

The male lorry driver was not injured.

Officers have now launched an appeal for any witnesses to the incident to come forward.

Sergeant Stewart Taylor, Roads Policing Unit, Ayrshire, said: “Although the crash happened in the early hours of this morning, this road is the main arterial route between Kilmarnock and Irvine so it’s possible that other vehicles were on the road at the time who may have either seen the crash happen or have information that will assist officers with their enquiries.

“Any information, including dash-cam footage, can be passed to officers via 101.

“Please quote reference number 0377 of Wednesday, November 16 when calling.”
