Driver dies in hospital nine days after car crash

A driver who died nine days after his car crashed in Dumfries and Galloway has been named by police.

The incident happened on Monday May 25 at 10.20am on the B729 near Dunscore, between Dumfries and Carsphairn.

Patrick Lennon, from Galston in Ayrshire, was airlifted to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow.

He died on June 3 as a result of his injuries. The 42-year-old was the only occupant of the Nissan Navara.

Sergeant Leigh McCulloch said: “Our thoughts are with Mr Lennon’s family and friends at this difficult time.

“We are continuing with enquiries to establish the full circumstances of this crash. I would ask anyone who may have information but has not yet spoken to police to contact 101, quoting incident 0903 of 25 May.”

Elsewhere, a 47-year-old man died following a crash between his silver Audi A4 and a black Ford Fiesta in East Lothian.

The incident happened around 12.45pm on Thursday on the A198 near Dirleton.

He was the only person in the Audi and his next of kin are aware.

The 25-year-old male driver of the Ford was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary for treatment.

The A198 was closed between Station Road in Dirleton and North Berwick to allow for an investigation.

Sergeant Jennifer Forbes said: “Our thoughts are with the man’s family and friends at this sad time.

“We are carrying out enquiries to establish the full circumstances of this collision and would urge anyone who may have information to come forward.

“This includes anyone who was driving in the area at the time and may have dashcam footage which could help.

“Anyone with information can contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident 1444 of 4 June.”
