Driver dies in hospital and two seriously injured following two-vehicle collision in Dumfries and GallowayGoogle Maps

A driver has died in hospital and two people remain in a serious condition following a two-vehicle collision in Dumfries and Galloway.

Emergency services were called to the A709 near Lochmaben around 7.35pm on Saturday following a collision involving a black Vauxhall Vectra car and a white Citroen Dispatch van.

Three people were taken to hospital for treatment, however the 50-year-old male driver of the Vauxhall died a short time later.

The occupants of the Citroen, a 67-year-old man and a 55-year-old woman, remain in hospital in a serious condition.

The road was closed for around eight hours to allow enquiries to be carried out and reopened around 3.30am on Sunday.

Sergeant Wayne Carnochan said: “Our thoughts are with the family of the man who has died at this time.

“Our enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of this crash and we are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed anything around this time to contact us.

“In addition, anyone with relevant dash-cam footage is asked to get in touch as this may be able to assist.”
