A driver has died following a one-vehicle crash in Dumfries and Galloway.

The man was in a black Citreon Nemo van on the B729 Dunscore to Carsphairn road, near Throughgate, when the incident took place on Thursday.

The van left the road and crashed on a nearby field just after 4pm.

Emergency services attended and the driver, who was the only occupant of the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The road was closed in both directions and reopened at around 9.45pm following a police investigation and officers are now appealing for witnesses in a bid to establish the full circumstances.

Sergeant Jonnny Edgar of Police Scotland’s Road Policing Unit said: “Our enquiries are ongoing to understand why the van left the road and our thoughts are with the man’s family and friends at this time.

“The van was travelling north towards Dunscore and we’re eager to hear from anyone who may have seen it prior to the crash, or witnessed the collision itself.

“Any drivers recording on the B729 yesterday afternoon with dash cam are asked to check their systems and provide any relevant footage to us as soon as possible.”
