Driver clocked ‘speeding at 138mph’ and charged Police Scotland

A man has been charged after he was allegedly clocked driving at 138mph in Dumfries and Galloway.

Officers carrying out speed checks around 4pm on Friday became aware of a white Mercedes travelling at high speed near Lockerbie.

Police said the vehicle was travelling northbound towards Glasgow on the A74 (M).

The driver, 38, was stopped and charged in connection with road traffic offences.

Sergeant Jonathan Edgar said: “Most people using the roads do so with due regard for the speed limits and driving conditions, but I would appeal to the minority to slow down and in doing so, reduce the chances of collisions and the danger to others.”
