Driver arrested after man, 85, injured in hit-and-run in Ayr

An Audi driver has been arrested after a man was left seriously injured in a hit-and-run in Ayr.

Emergency services were called to the town’s Arthur Street at around 11.45am on Tuesday, after a grey Audi A1 car struck an 85-year-old pedestrian.

The man was taken to Crosshouse Hospital, where his injuries are described as serious, but not life-threatening.

The Audi failed to stop at the scene, but was traced a short time later.

A 41-year-old man was arrested in connection with the crash and enquiries are ongoing.

Sergeant Gordon Stewart, from the Irvine Road Policing Unit, said: “We know this incident took place in a busy area, with other pedestrians and drivers nearby.

“We would like to thank those who stopped to speak with police, but appeal for anyone else with information or possible dashcam footage from the scene to please come forward.
