A Green Day superfan brought on stage by frontman Billie Joe Armstrong says his “dream came true” in Glasgow.
Jake Rodger from Anstruther was shocked when the American rock icons invited him onstage at their Bellahouston Park show on Tuesday night.
The 23-year-old performed a duet with Armstrong on hit song Dilemma, playing the guitar in front of tens of thousands of people.
The superfan, in a band with school friends called Conflict Hope, brought a sign to the show that he made in his room that read: “I can play Dilemma on guitar.”
He told STV News: “Green Day have been my life since I was seven years old and it’s always been a dream if I ever got called up on stage.
“I brought the sign, made it my room, and brought it along – my bandmate put me on his shoulders.
“Billy noticed it and I couldn’t believe it he even saw it then invited me up on stage.
“It was just the best moment. My dream literally came true.”
Despite the rush of emotion, Jake said he couldn’t even remember what the iconic frontman said to him but that he got a big hug from his hero.
He added: “I honestly don’t even remember (what he said).
“When I came up we were just laughing, I was so star struck and the song just started right away.
“I just told him you saved my life and we started playing and I thought ‘Oh I better not mess up’.
“Afterwards he gave me a big hug and apparently he said something like ‘He’s in the band now’ but I didn’t even hear it because I was going off stage.
“My sister told me in the car after and it broke me again.
“My whole family was there and it was just such a special moment.
“I’ve got their lyrics tattooed on me, they have been my life ever since I saw them live for the first time.
“Not a day goes by when I haven’t been utterly obsessed with them.”
Green Day’s official TikTok account posted the video of the fan on stage with Armstrong with the caption “So you know how to play Dilemma?”.
English rock band Nothing But Thieves, and punk band Maid of Ace played as opening acts before the headliners.
The band were previously forced to cancel a show at Bellahouston in July 2017 due to “adverse weather conditions.”
