A double-decker bus has crashed into a bridge in Glasgow with one person taken to hospital.
The Scottish Fire and Rescue service confirmed it sent three appliances and a specialist resource team to Cook Street near the city’s O2 Academy.
Ten people – including a child – were taken to hospital after a bus crashed into the same bridge and had its roof torn off in May 2023.
The alarm was raised after 6.10pm on Saturday. Crews are still in attendance alongside Police Scotland and the Scottish Ambulance Service.
First Bus confirmed a passenger was taken to hospital and “numerous other injuries” reported on its 4A service.
Police confirmed Cook Street is closed at Centre Street, Commerce Street is closed until Wallace Street and Salkeld Street is closed to Cook Street.
A Police Scotland statement read: “A number of roads in Glasgow are closed following a report of a bus crashing into a bridge on Cook Street around 5.55pm on Saturday, December 14.
“Cook Street is closed at Centre Street, Commerce Street is closed until Wallace Street and Salkeld Street is closed to Cook street.
“Emergency services are in attendance and drivers are asked to avoid the area.”
A spokesperson for First Bus said: “I can confirm that one of our 4A service buses in Glasgow was involved in a bridge strike incident on December 14 around 6pm in which a double decker bus hit a railway bridge on Cook Street.
“We’re aware of numerous injuries, with one person being taken to hospital in an ambulance.
“We have launched an immediate investigation and are also assisting Police Scotland with their enquiries.
“Our thoughts are with everyone affected by this incident.”
ScotRail confirmed trains on multiple lines including to Gourock, Ayr and Largs were cancelled after the incident.
In an update on X around 8.20pm, they said: “Following a road vehicle colliding with a bridge earlier this evening between Glasgow Central and Cardonald all lines have now reopened.
“Residual delays and cancellations will occur as crew and trains get back into their correct positions.”
The Scottish Ambulance Service has been contacted for comment.
