A dog with a severe limp was found abandoned in a field in South Lanarkshire with a duvet.

The lurcher-type dog was discovered by a member of the public in the village of Crawford on Saturday, 14 February.

The animal had been left lying on a duvet in an open field, prompting concern from the passerby who contacted the Scottish SPCA.

An animal rescue officer attended and transported the dog to a veterinary surgeon after noticing she was suffering from a severe limp.

She was given pain relief and is now receiving ongoing treatment and care at the Scottish SPCA’s Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centre in Cardonald.

Although the dog is microchipped, officials say the chip is not registered, making it difficult to trace an owner.

The charity is now appealing to the public for any information that could help establish how the animal came to be abandoned.

Anyone with relevant details is urged to contact the Scottish SPCA.

A spokesperson said: “The charity is now looking to trace the owner. If you have any information about this or think you can help, please get in touch with the Helpline on 03000 999 999.”
