A dog has been found tied to a park bench “shaking and in distress”.

The male Staffordshire bull terrier – named Rocky – was found by a member of the public in Bothwell Road Park, South Lanarkshire.

He was taken to the local rescue and rehoming centre on Saturday, where animal welfare officers found him to have a “chronic skin complaint”.

Scottish SPCA animal rescue officer Dawn-Vale Juma said: “A concerned member of the public came in to our centre to report a dog tied up in the park.

“We immediately responded and found him tied to a bench. He was shaking and clearly in distress.

Friendly: Rocky was taken to the rescue and rehoming centre.

“We took him to the vet where they found he had a chronic skin complaint.

“From his microchip, we’ve been able to find out his name is Rocky and that he is five years old.

“The address on the chip is registered to an address in England. We’ve spoken to the previous owner who has been very cooperative.

“We have no idea how long he had been left tied up in the park. Rocky is a gorgeous boy and is very friendly.

“We are appealing to the public to help us find out more information.”

If anyone recognises Rocky contact the confidential animal helpline on 03000 999 999.
