Diversions in place as burst 24-inch water main leaves residential road closed Scottish Water

A 24-inch water main which exploded on Wednesday has left a Glasgow road closed for the foreseeable future.

Scottish Water said the main, located in the Govan area, was impossible to repair safely without the closure.

As a result, the eastbound carriageway of Shieldhall Road has been closed from the A739 Clyde Tunnel to its junction with Elder Grove Avenue.

Vehicle access to Elder Grove Avenue for residents will be allowed.

A Scottish Water spokesperson said: “Unfortunately there is no other way of carrying out the repair safely and we would ask motorists to follow signs for the diversion that has been put in place.

“We are conscious of the inconvenience this may be causing but we are working as fast as safety will allow to complete the repair and reinstate the road.”

They added that traffic management has been agreed with Glasgow City Council.
