The dad of a teenager who died after an alleged stabbing on a beach in North Ayrshire has paid tribute to his “best friend”.
Kayden Moy from East Kilbride died in hospital after being found seriously injured on the Irvine beach following a report of a disturbance around 6.45pm on May 17.
The 16-year-old received medical care at the scene but died in hospital on May 18.
A 17-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with the incident.
Kayden’s dad, Paul Moy, shared a tribute to his son on social media, saying: “My first born son, my big boy, my best friend, my main man, my everything. Rest easy, my boy.”
A fundraiser for Kayden’s family has been launched by Busby AFC, where Kayden played in the youth team for “several” years.
A spokesperson for the club said the community was “devastated” and “hit hard” by the news.
“Kayden’s grandfather is a long-term volunteer, player, coach, and friend of the Club. He currently spends his weeknights and weekends coaching Kayden’s younger brother, who currently plays in our junior section too,” the club said.
“We are aware that nothing will ever replace the life of an individual, but we hope that this fundraising will help Kayden’s family at this extremely difficult time.”
Over £4,000 had been donated as of Monday.
MSP for Central Scotland, Monica Lennon, extended her condolences to the teen’s family.
“It’s devastating that 16-year-old Kayden Moy went to the beach and never came home, robbed of his life and future,” she said.
“I extend my sincere condolences to Kayden’s heartbroken family and friends. This heartbreaking and violent tragedy will stun East Kilbride and Scotland. Enough is enough.”
